In January 2025, members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Woodstock, GA, became aware of a need in our community to help those who are caring for people suffering from forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. The Alzheimer’s Association assigned a liaison to work with us in forming a Caregivers Support Group, the first one established in Cherokee County, Georgia. These Good Shepherd members attended seminars and an online course facilitated by the Alzheimer’s Association to train us to become meeting facilitators. Our goal was to help caregivers build a support system and be a trusted resource for them.

Support groups conducted by trained facilitators are a safe place for people living with an illness and their care partners to:
- Develop a support system
- Exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions
- Talk through issues and ways of coping
- Share feelings, needs, and concerns
- Learn about community resources
We meet regularly twice a month on the second Saturday and the fourth Thursday of the month, at 1 PM in our Fellowship Hall, at 1208 Rose Creek Dr, Woodstock, GA 30189.
