WHO WE ARE
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The ELCA is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with nearly 2.7 million members in more than 8,400 worshiping communities across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region.
By God’s grace, we live confidently and generously in this community of faith and in service of others. Through a wide range of daily vocations and ministries, we nurture faith, build community and gather resources for a healed, reconciled, and just world. We serve our neighbors by providing mercy, hope, and joy through Jesus Christ.
The Lutheran church has roots in the writings of the German church reformer, Martin Luther.
As Lutheran Christians, we believe that…
- God has created and continues to create everything that exists and has a deep and unending love for that creation.
- God entered human existence through God’s son Jesus Christ, who died on a cross and rose from a tomb so that we might know we are loved and forgiven through grace alone and not through any actions of our own.
- God desires each of us to have a deepening relationship with God and is present with us through the Holy Spirit.
- By the gift of grace, received through faith, we are transformed and set free to love and serve all others, just as God loves us. God calls us to practice compassion, forgiveness, and hospitality in our relationships with others and invites us to share and live out our faith in Jesus Christ with whomever we meet.
- God has given us the church as the primary way in which the kingdom is being built on earth and reveals God’s love for us through the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
